PARIS (TVBS News) — The Olympics badminton event will kick off on Saturday (July 27), with Taiwan's "golden duo" Lee Yang (李洋) and Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) returning as defending champions.
They aim to become the first men's mixed doubles team in badminton history to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals. Lee announced on social media that this would be his final Olympic appearance, stating that he would give it his all and not have any regrets.
Wang also took to social media to motivate himself, writing, "The second Olympics is finally starting." He stated that even though he's extremely nervous, he is still going to give everything on the court.
Lee and Wang will face their first match early tomorrow morning (Taipei time).
Having previously made history by winning Taiwan's first Olympic badminton gold medal at the previous Tokyo Olympics, Lee and Wang find themselves in the "group of death," Group D, alongside Denmark's Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, China's Liu Yuchen (劉雨辰) and Ou Xuanyi (歐烜屹), Japan's Yugo Kobayashi (小林優吾) and Takuro Hoki (保木卓朗), and the United States' Vinson Chiu (邱愷翔) and Joshua Yuan (尤安).
As Taiwan's top badminton duo, Lee and Wang carry the hopes of their nation. Fans eagerly anticipate their performance in Paris, hoping they will set a new milestone for Taiwanese badminton.
