TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Excitement is building in Paris with one day remaining until the opening ceremony on Friday (July 26).

French President Emmanuel Macron echoed this optimism this week, stressing their readiness throughout the event. However, residents and tourists are less optimistic.

Travel restrictions for the opening ceremony in the downtown area have complicated life for residents and workers. Tourists are confused by the QR code system required to enter restricted areas, and business owners are unhappy about the impact on their businesses. Travel restrictions and international tensions have also dampened tourists' expectations.

Fewer visitors than expected have arrived, and hotel owners report lower-than-expected reservations. The good news is traveling in downtown Paris is smooth on Thursday thanks to restrictions on cars and motorcycles.

Meanwhile, a minority union of Paris airport staff has issued a strike notice for the opening ceremony day, potentially creating difficulties for local authorities.

Despite these challenges, enthusiasm is gradually growing with just one day to go. While no one believes the Olympics can transform humanity, the Paris Games have already inspired some positive changes in the city.
