KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Typhoon Gaemi (凱米) has claimed the life of a 70-year-old female scooter-rider on Wednesday (July 24).
The tragic accident occured in Kaohsiung's Fengshan District (鳳山區), when a falling tree crushed motorcyclist.
The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m. on near Jianguo Road (建國路), as the woman traveled west to east.
The sudden increase in wind speed likely caused the tree to topple. The woman, trapped under the tree, suffered multiple abrasions and had no pulse when emergency medical technicians arrived at the scene.
Firefighters dispatched three vehicles and a six-person team to rescue her and transported her to Chang Gung Medical Hospital (長庚醫院).
Despite efforts to save her, the hospital pronounced her dead after an hour of emergency treatment. Authorities have notified her family. The tragic event underscores the severe impact of Typhoon Gaemi and highlights the importance of staying vigilant during extreme weather conditions.
