TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) indicated on Monday (July 15) that 11 counties and cities, including Taipei (台北) and New Taipei (新北), experienced temperatures exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.
Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典), former head of the CWA, explained the severity of the situation, stating, "When the temperature reaches 37 degrees Celsius or above, and there are no specific heated regions, it means it is hot everywhere."
According to the CWA, the highest temperature recorded was 38.3 degrees Celsius in Houlong (後龍), Miaoli County (苗栗縣), followed by 37.9 degrees Celsius in Sanxia (三峽) in New Taipei (新北市), and Shanlin (杉林) in Kaohsiung City (高雄市).
The CWA issued red alerts for New Taipei, indicating a high probability of continuous extreme temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Miaoli County, Chiayi County (嘉義縣), Tainan City (台南市), Kaohsiung City, and Taitung County (台東縣) received orange alerts for potential extreme heat of 38 degrees Celsius.
Other areas, including Taipei City, Taoyuan City (桃園市), Taichung City (台中市), Changhua County (彰化縣), Nantou County (南投縣), Yunlin County (雲林縣), Chiayi City (嘉義市), Pingtung County (屏東縣), Yilan County (宜蘭縣), and Hualien County (花蓮縣), also faced orange alerts for the likelihood of temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Keelung City (基隆市), Hsinchu County (新竹縣), and Kinmen County (金門縣) received yellow alerts, forecasting temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.
