TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education (教育部體育署) stated on Friday (July 12) the significant strides made in preserving Taiwan's sports heritage since launching its digital archiving project in 2017. Officials aim to safeguard invaluable memories through meticulous documentation and digitization efforts.
The administration has completed 105 interviews with sports figures and digitized over 1,200 artifacts. They have also produced two storytelling videos and hosted one digital exhibition showcased on the digital archiving platform. In 2021, they began a sports artifact inventory project, now in its second phase.
Efforts to raise awareness about cultural preservation among local governments, associations, and schools will continue. The administration plans to guide relevant entities in proactively inventorying existing artifacts. They strive to leave a lasting legacy of Taiwan's sports culture.
A memorandum of understanding with the National Museum of Taiwan History (國立臺灣歷史博物館) underscores this commitment. Both institutions will collaborate on research, archiving, exhibitions, and education. They plan to host a physical exhibition in 2026, coinciding with the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games (名古屋亞運).
The Sports Administration's initiatives highlight the importance of preserving sports culture. Their ongoing efforts ensure that future generations can access these precious memories.
