TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the flag presentation ceremony for Taiwan's delegation to the 33rd Paris Olympic Games on Tuesday (July 9). He handed the national and delegation flags to the team, awarded a special meal allowance of NT$200,000, and presented a lucky charm to the delegation.
The Paris Olympics will open on July 26. This year, Taiwan has qualified 60 athletes for the Games. The total delegation consists of 144 members, including coaches, medical staff, and administrative personnel.
President Lai personally handed the national flag and the delegation flag to the team at the National Sports Training Center (國家運動訓練中心). Weightlifter Chen Wen-huei (陳玟卉) accepted the special meal allowance on behalf of the delegation, while breaking athlete Sun Chen (孫振) received the lucky charm.
After the flag presentation ceremony, delegation members attended a pre-departure workshop organized by the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (中華奧會). The workshop aimed to ensure that every athlete is in the best condition to face the challenges ahead.
Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee president Lin Hong-dow (林鴻道) expressed confidence in all the athletes, hoping they would give their best performance and strive for the highest honor in the Paris Olympics.
