TAIPEI (TVBS News) — AIT Director Raymond F. Greene (谷立言) met with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Wednesday (July 10) for the first time since assuming his role. They discussed a wide range of issues spanning the breadth of the U.S.-Taiwan partnership.

In his opening remarks, Director Greene expressed his honor working with President Lai and his team, saying, "I am honored to be given the opportunity to work with you and your team to advance the U.S.-Taiwan relationship at this important time."

Director Greene highlighted the U.S. commitment to supporting Taiwan's ability to defend itself. He reiterated that U.S. support for Taiwan aligns with the long-standing U.S. one-China policy, which follows the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances.

Director Greene looks forward to enhancing the U.S.-Taiwan relationship across economic, cultural, people-to-people, and technology fields. His previous roles in Washington included Director for Japan and East Asian Economic Affairs at the National Security Council, and Director of the Office of Economic Policy in the State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

In addition to his Washington experience, Greene served overseas as U.S. Consul General in Chengdu (成都), China, Okinawa (沖繩), Japan, and as the Deputy Director at AIT. His extensive background underscores his capability to strengthen U.S.-Taiwan ties further.

The meeting between Greene and Lai signals a continued commitment to a robust partnership. Future developments in the U.S.-Taiwan relationship will likely reflect the strategic discussions during this pivotal meeting.
