TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦), chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, resigned from his position on Sunday (July 7) after authorities implicated him in a corruption case under the Anti-Corruption Act. A court set his bail at NT$5 million.
The presidential Office's spokesperson, Kuo Ya-Hui (郭雅慧), stated that President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) respects Cheng's decision. Moreover, the selection of a new chairman will be handled appropriately according to procedures. Cheng emphasized his commitment to defending his innocence through the judicial process.
Cheng's resignation underscores his dedication to maintaining the integrity of the Straits Exchange Foundation. The organization will proceed with its mission while authorities continue their investigation.
