NANTOU (TVBS News) — The Nantou County Hsin Hsifu Kuanhuai Association (南投縣新媳婦關懷協會) hosted a Songkran Festival and Buddha Day ceremony on Sunday (July 7), drawing numerous children to participate in water battles — the event aimed to promote the welfare of immigrant families.
Participants enjoyed water battles and activities related to domestic violence prevention, immigrant laws, education services, disability protection advocacy, and interactive games. Organizers also prepared Southeast Asian cuisine, including Vietnamese cold noodles, pineapple juice, and cold brew tea, to help attendees cool down.
Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Loh Meei-ling (羅美玲) attended the event, engaging with immigrants and addressing their policy concerns. Loh's presence underscored the importance of community support and policy feedback from new residents.
Wu Tung-hsuan (吳東璇), the association's president, highlighted the association's summer camps. Wu stated that the camps teach children to make pipe cleaner flowers, handmade buns, dorayaki, menstrual equality, violence prevention advocacy, and shrink plastic crafts, hoping these activities encourage kids to spend less time on electronic devices and more time outdoors.
The association's efforts reflect a broader commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for immigrant families in Nantou County. Future events may focus on similar themes, promoting community engagement and well-being.
