CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — The Changhua City Office (彰化市公所) will host its annual singles event on Aug. 10 (七夕情人節). Organizers expect 50 men and 50 women to participate, and registration will be open from July 5 to 26.
Last year, the event successfully matched 20 couples, with two pairs tying the knot this year. This year marks the fifth year of the singles event, and one of last year's couples will marry in November. Mayor Lin Shih-hsien (林世賢) has gifted them a 50-inch TV as a wedding present.
Participants must be single and between 20 and 45 years old. The event offers a total prize of NT$30,000 and a 50-inch TV for those who marry by Dec. 31, 2026. A professional team has designed this year's activities, including a real-life puzzle game to help participants break the ice quickly. The top three teams will share the NT$30,000 prize.
Governments are working hard to hold single events to address Taiwan's low fertility and marriage rates, which is seen as a national crisis. Single people in Taipei, Chiayi, and Taoyuan can enjoy similar events to find love.
