TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Executive Yuan (行政院) on Thursday (July 4) approved amendments to the "Cyber Security Management Act" (資通安全管理法). The Ministry of Digital Affairs (數位部, MODA) will now audit all regulated public agencies and specific non-public agencies. Penalties of up to NT$1 million will apply to those who evade, obstruct, or refuse investigations during major cyber incidents.
The amendments focus on four main areas: clarifying the authority and responsibilities of the supervising agency, enhancing cyber security management in regulated agencies, requiring dedicated cyber security personnel, and granting central authorities the power to investigate significant cyber incidents in specific non-public agencies.
Under the new law, the Administration for Cyber Security (資安署) can audit regulated public and specific non-public agencies. They can notify involved parties to present statements or third-party investigation reports. The supervising agency can send personnel or delegate other agencies to conduct necessary inspections.
The new amendments aim to bolster Taiwan's cyber security framework and ensure compliance among key sectors. Future developments will likely focus on the implementation and effectiveness of these new regulations.
