TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on Tuesday (June 18) that Taiwan, in collaboration with like-minded countries such as the U.S., is tirelessly striving to maintain the status quo of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The ministry emphasized that the international community is aware of the party persistently attempting to alter this status quo.

According to a report by the Financial Times on June 15, Chinese President Xi Jinping told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that the U.S. was trying to provoke him into attacking Taiwan, but he would not fall for it. In response to the Financial Times report, U.S. Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller denied Xi's claims on June 17 (U.S. Eastern Time) and reaffirmed that the U.S. policy towards Taiwan remains unchanged.

North American Affairs Department Director-General Wang Liang-yu (王良玉) stated at a regular press conference on Tuesday that Taiwan and the U.S., along with other like-minded countries, have been discussing how to jointly maintain the status quo of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait for a long time.

Wang further pointed out that over the past few years, one party has continually sought excuses to attempt to change the status quo. He believes the international community clearly knows which party is taking such actions.

Additionally, relations between Taiwan and various U.S. states continue to warm up, as 22 business and trade offices have been established in Taiwan, including the newly inaugurated New Jersey Asia-Pacific Center.

MOFA is pleased with this development. It believes it will not only help create opportunities for trade and investment but also deepen the exchange and interaction between the two sides in fields such as technology and culture.
