STOCKHOLM (TVBS News) — Klement Ruey-sheng GU (谷瑞生), Taiwan's representative to Sweden, urged China to halt its psychological, public opinion, and legal warfare against Taiwan on Tuesday (July 2) in the renowned Swedish newspaper Västerbottens Kuriren. Ku emphasized that Beijing has no jurisdiction over Taiwan and that China's recent legal opinions hold no binding power over the Taiwanese people.

Ku responded to China's new criminal penalties targeting "stubborn" separatist activities, which include the possibility of the death penalty and trials in absentia. He stated that threats cannot win hearts and will lead to regional instability and heightened tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

On February 28, the European Parliament overwhelmingly passed resolutions on the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP). The resolutions stated that China's territorial claims over Taiwan lack a basis in international law and affirmed that only Taiwan's democratically elected government can represent its people internationally.

Ku concluded his op-ed by asserting that China's irrational actions must cease immediately to prevent further regional instability.
