NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Government's Labor Affairs Department launched the "Summer Heat Hazard and Air Conditioning Operation Special Inspection" on Sunday (June 30) aimed to safeguard outdoor workers and delivery personnel from heat-related illnesses. This campaign aims to enforce preventive measures against the dangers posed by high temperatures during the summer months.
Chen Jui-chia, director of the Labor Affairs Department, emphasized the importance of employers adhering to the "Occupational Safety and Health Act." He said, "Employers must implement cooling, resting, and hydration measures to prevent the occurrence of heat-related diseases." This directive underscores the government's commitment to worker safety amid rising temperatures.
Delivery personnel are advised to take proactive steps for their well-being, including taking breaks, staying hydrated, and applying sunscreen to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Additionally, air conditioning installers, who often work on the exteriors of buildings, face significant occupational hazards if proper safety measures are not in place.
The Labor Affairs Department has warned that violations of these regulations will result in fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 for general infractions. Specifically, non-compliance could lead to penalties between NT$30,000 and NT$300,000 for air conditioning installation inspections, demanding immediate corrective actions.
