TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The southwest wind brought Sporadic showers to the coastal areas of Yilan and Hualien on Monday (July 1). Thunderstorms also hit the northern and central regions and mountainous areas in the afternoon.
Most regions saw temperatures ranging from 33 to 36 degrees Celsius. However, influenced by the Foehn wind, the western half near the mountains and the southeast experienced temperatures above 36 degrees, peaking at 38 degrees. From Tuesday to Sunday, the Pacific high pressure will shift westward.
By Tuesday, the wind will turn southward, veering southeast by Wednesday. The windward southeastern region and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) will see sporadic showers at irregular intervals, with continued afternoon thunderstorms in the western half and the mountains.
Tuesday and Wednesday may bring heavy rain in the afternoon in the mountainous regions. With the persistently high temperatures, residents are urged to stay hydrated and use sun protection to prevent heat-related injuries.
