TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Political tensions in Taiwan escalated on Wednesday (June 13) as the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) slammed the Executive Yuan for seeking a legislative amendment reconsideration, labeling the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) motives as based on misinformation.

Following President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) approval of the reconsideration, the TPP charged the government with acting as a "central kitchen of fake news," deepening the political divide. DPP spokesman Justin Wu (吳崢) countered by accusing TPP legislator Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) of being the main source of falsehoods in the debate over parliamentary powers.

Wu criticized Huang and the TPP for distorting the truth and misrepresenting President Lai's constitutional duties. "Despite repeated assertions, Huang's statements filled with distortions and rumors cannot alter the facts," Wu stated. This conflict highlights the ongoing struggle over interpreting legislative and executive powers in Taiwan.

In response to the growing controversy, the DPP announced the launch of a series of "Anti-Abuse of Power, Protect Democracy" (反濫權、護民主) seminars. These seminars are designed to address the alleged abuses of parliamentary power by the Kuomintang (KMT) and TPP coalition and disseminate accurate information to the public.

This initiative marks the DPP's attempt to engage more directly with citizens to counter the TPP's accusations and affirm its commitment to democratic principles. The series of seminars across Taiwan seeks to educate the public on the truths behind the political allegations and reinforce democratic values amidst the ongoing turmoil.

The tension between the TPP and DPP underscores a critical period in Taiwan's democracy, with both sides vying for public support through accusations and counter-accusations. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the impact of these seminars and public engagements could play a significant role in shaping public opinion and political dynamics in Taiwan.
