TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tainan City railway underground project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, Minister of Transportation and Communications Li Meng-yen (李孟諺) said on Wednesday (June 12).

The announcement came during Li, Railway Bureau Director-General Yang Cheng-chun (楊正君), Taiwan Railways Administration Chairman Du Wei (杜微), and Tainan Deputy Mayor Yeh Tse-shan's (葉澤山) inspection of transportation infrastructure in the Tainan area. The onsite visit included a visit to the level crossing at Cambridge Avenue (康橋大道) in Yongkang District.

Democratic Progressive Party legislator Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲) highlighted that the Tainan railway underground project has already reached 86.2 percent completion. He emphasized the necessity of extending the project due to traffic congestion caused by the Southern Taiwan Science Park (南科) at level crossings.

Lin also mentioned that Tainan Metro's Blue Line is making the fastest progress, while the Green and Deep Green Lines are in the feasibility study phase, and the Yellow Line is next in line for planning.

Minister Li praised President Lai Ching-te for investing considerable effort in the Tainan Metro project. With President Lai's support, the project's progress is expected to accelerate, he added.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications will fund the feasibility study for the Tainan Metro Yellow Line, which will kickstart preliminary work and accelerate the development of Tainan's metro system.

This initiative marks a significant step towards alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing the transportation infrastructure in Tainan, promising a more efficient and accessible city for residents and visitors alike.
