TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant leadership transition, C. C. Wei took the helm as the new chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (台積電, TSMC) on Tuesday (June 4), highlighting the challenges of supply chain resilience amid cross-strait tensions.
During his inaugural address, Wei emphasized the critical need for global and cross-strait leaders to wisely avoid conflict, noting that any hostilities would impact all industries.
Navigating Geopolitical Waters
Wei, unanimously elected by the board to succeed the retired Mark Liu, plans to shift his focus towards government relations and gradually hand over the CEO responsibilities to his team.
He revealed discussions with clients about the possibility of moving production out of Taiwan in the event of cross-strait conflict but deemed it "impossible" due to TSMC's significant capacity in Taiwan.
Commitment to Taiwan's Dominance
Under Wei's leadership, TSMC vows to continue following customer demands and adhering to international policies, as stated by Liu during the shareholder meeting.
Liu also addressed Taiwan's water and electricity shortages, expressing confidence in overcoming these challenges through effective communication with the government.
