TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), known as the "Godfather of AI," is set to deepen ties with Taiwanese manufacturers and showcase AI applications at the upcoming COMPUTEX in June.
His keynote at the National Taiwan University (NTU) Sports Center on Sunday (June 2), exclusively broadcasted by TVBS, will kick off the technology event.
Huang's relationship with Taiwan's tech industry is notably strong, with NVIDIA being the second-largest customer of TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
NVIDIA's AI chips play a pivotal role in the industry, manufactured and tested by TSMC, then integrated by Foxconn's Industrial Fulian, Quanta Computer, and Wistron, before being sold to end customers like Google and Microsoft.
Semiconductor industry analyst Chai Huan-hsin commented, "The personal relationship between Huang and TSMC founder Morris Chang is like that of father and son, which helps NVIDIA get priority consideration for advanced manufacturing capacity."
As NVIDIA's partnership with TSMC solidifies, competition in the semiconductor industry intensifies, evidenced by Intel seeking collaboration with UMC (United Microelectronics Corporation) for the 12nm process technology.
NVIDIA's stock has seen significant growth, benefiting from the blockchain boom between 2016 and 2017, the global semiconductor shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, and a 264% increase in 2023 due to the generative AI boom.
In 2022, NVIDIA established an AI research and development center in Taipei's Neihu, with a subsidy of NT$6.7 billion from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), promising to employ up to 1,000 staff by 2027.
Foxconn's collaboration with NVIDIA to optimize autonomous driving software underscores NVIDIA's critical role in the AI arms race.
With Huang's upcoming appearance at COMPUTEX, the spotlight is on NVIDIA's expanding influence in Taiwan and the broader tech industry, signaling a future where AI and semiconductor collaborations continue to drive innovation.
