TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced on Wednesday (May 29) the schedule for the 2024 WBSC Premier12, with Taiwan's preliminary round games set to take place at the Taipei Dome.
This international baseball event will see Taiwan facing off against some of the world's top teams in November, highlighting the island's significant role in the global baseball community.
Taiwan's Road to Victor
Taiwan's first game would be on Nov. 13 against South Korea, followed by a highly anticipated match against Japan (日本) on Nov. 16.
Placed in Group B alongside Japan, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Australia, and Cuba, Taiwan will compete against the Dominican Republic, Australia, and Cuba on Nov. 14, 17, and 18, respectively. These matches are crucial for Taiwan as it seeks to advance beyond the preliminary rounds and make a mark on the tournament.
The WBSC Premier12 serves as a global stage for baseball, featuring 30 games in the preliminary round alone, following a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Round, vying for the championship titles.
While Taiwan battles in Group B, Group A will see action from Nov. 10-14 in Mexico, featuring teams from Mexico, the USA, the Netherlands, Panama, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.
The opening match in Group A will pit the Netherlands against Panama. Additional games include Puerto Rico vs. the USA and Mexico vs. Venezuela.
