BUCHA (TVBS News) — A children's sports school in Bucha, Ukraine, funded by Taiwan, was completed on Tuesday (May 14), with Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk among those in attendance during the opening ceremony.
Bucha suffered significant civilian casualties and structural damage during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In August 2023, Taiwan's representative to Poland, Sharon S. N. Wu, signed a reconstruction aid agreement with Fedoruk, pledging $600,000 to help build air-raid shelters and rebuild the children's sports school destroyed in the conflict.
At the school's completion ceremony, Fedoruk thanked all those involved in the reconstruction effort, especially Taiwan. He emphasized that despite the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict, Taiwan's assistance has been unwavering.
Wu, representing Taiwan, participated in the ceremony via video link. She hailed the newly rebuilt Bucha children's sports school as a symbol of rebirth and hope.
The Russo-Ukrainian war has raged for over two years, with countless Ukrainian citizens still suffering in the conflict. The completion of the children's sports school not only injects new vitality into Bucha but also demonstrates Taiwan's active role in providing humanitarian care and support to the international community.
