TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署, CWA) issued a heavy rain alert for Taipei, New Taipei, and eight other counties on Tuesday (May 21), warning of severe weather conditions expected to last into the evening.
The alert, announced at 3:20 p.m., comes as a frontal system affects regions across Taiwan, including Yilan , Pingtung, Taitung, and mountainous areas from Nantou to Kaohsiung.
The CWA has advised the public to be cautious of lightning strikes and strong gusts of wind, particularly in mountainous regions where the risk of landslides and falling rocks is heightened.
The affected areas include the mountainous regions of Taipei City, New Taipei City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, as well as Hengchun Peninsula, Yilan County, Taitung County, Lanyu, and Green Island.
Residents and visitors in these areas are urged to stay vigilant and prepare for the possibility of sudden weather changes.
