TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a bold move to advance the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, KYMCO unveiled on Wednesday (May 15) the iONEX UNO, a groundbreaking electric motorcycle that combines charging and battery-swapping capabilities. This innovation represents a significant step towards a more sustainable and flexible future in personal transportation.
Innovative Electric Mobility
Speaking to the media, KYMCO Group Chairman Allen Ko highlighted the new model's versatility, saying, "Charge-and-swap electric motorcycles offer more benefits to consumers accustomed to rechargeable or battery-swapping scooters. I believe the 2-in-1 electric motorcycles will not only become mainstream in Taiwan in the future but are also poised to lead the e-motors trend in the global market."
The iONEX UNO, which translates to 'one' in Italian, symbolizes the perfect integration of rechargeable and swappable battery systems. This integration not only challenges the conventional separation of charging and swapping models but also opens up a world of possibilities for consumers to meet their energy needs seamlessly.
Expanding Infrastructure
To support the adoption of this innovative technology, KYMCO plans to collaborate with hospitality businesses. "We will talk to hotels and B&B owners to encourage them to set up electric motorcycle chargers so their guests can charge their electric motors and attract more riders to stay with them," said Ko.
This strategy aligns with the company's broader vision to promote electric motorcycles in alignment with the government's plan for net-zero carbon emissions. "KYMCO has been fully committed to the development of electric motorcycles for many years," Ko added. "We are entering the all-in-one e-motor era."
