TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a historic meeting at the Presidential Office on Wednesday (May 15), Nymphia Wind, the champion of "RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 16, performed in drag for President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), marking a significant moment of cultural and social recognition in Taiwan.
Nymphia, the first Taiwanese to win the prestigious title, expressed her gratitude towards President Tsai for her contributions and protection of Taiwan over the years, affectionately referring to her as "Taiwan's mother."
During her speech, Nymphia thanked President Tsai for the achievements made under her leadership, highlighting the inspiration she draws from the Taiwanese endemic species, the yellow daylily, symbolizing purity and resilience.
President Tsai commended Nymphia for incorporating Taiwanese elements into her performances and battling against social discrimination, showcasing fearless beauty. This event not only celebrated Nymphia's international victory but also underscored Taiwan's advancements in gender equality and social acceptance.
The ceremony was also attended by astrologer Jesse Tang (唐綺陽), who admired Nymphia's courage to be herself, describing the confidence drag brings as "world-class brilliance."
Tang praised President Tsai's eight-year effort towards gender equality, positioning Taiwan as a leader in Asia in this regard.
