TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) announced on Wednesday (May 15) that it will impose sanctions on certain Taiwanese commentators and their families for deliberately fabricating false and negative information about China.
TAO spokesperson Chen Binhua named Edward Huang (黃世聰), Lee Cheng-hao (李正皓), Wang Yi-chuan (王義川), Yu Pei-chen (于北辰), and Liu Bao-jie (劉寶傑) as individuals spreading misinformation through television, the internet, and magazines.
Chen stated that the actions of these commentators have provoked hostility and damaged the feelings of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
As a result, the TAO will legally penalize them and their families. "Any act of fabricating and spreading rumors, disturbing social order, and damaging the nation's honor and interests will be punished by law," Chen emphasized.
This move by the TAO underscores the increasing tensions between Taiwan and mainland China, highlighting the broader implications for cross-strait relations.
The sanctions against Taiwanese commentators signal a tightening grip on narratives surrounding the cross-strait relationship, potentially leading to further escalations in an already delicate situation.
