TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has experienced non-stop seismic activity since April 3, with two significant earthquakes measuring above magnitude 6 on Monday (April 22).

Kuo Kai-wen, former director of the Central Weather Administration's Seismological Center, noted that the recent quakes were aftershocks of the April 3 Hualien earthquake.

He explained that the seismic activity since then has released energy equivalent to 42 atomic bombs, with 39 released on April 3 alone, suggesting the quakes should soon subside.

However, Kuo expressed concern that the epicenter of yesterday’s quake is shifting towards the land.

Wu Chien-fu, current director of the Seismological Center, concurred, explaining that if the magnitude 7.2 quake on April 3 was the main shock, subsequent aftershocks should diminish in intensity.
