TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) minister Wang Kwo-tsai announced Thursday (April 18) that the public will no longer be able to report minor traffic violations that carry a maximum fine of NT$1,200 or less.
This comes after the Executive Yuan approved amendments to the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.
Wang views this amendment as a temporary measure in the lead-up to a broader overhaul of the traffic environment. He reassured the public that they could still dial 110 to report incidents, with police officers dispatched to handle the situation.
During a public hearing convened by the Transportation Committee of the Legislative Yuan, a preliminary consensus was reached. Wang agreed that the public should still be able to report instances of misuse of parking spaces designated for the disabled and motorcyclists not wearing helmets.
In other news, heavy thunderstorms have been affecting traffic, with water accumulation reported around Taipei Main Station. Wang urged drivers to exercise caution, noting that sudden heavy rainfall can impact the traffic network.
He added that short-term drainage system failures can occur during such weather and urges relevant authorities to conduct inspections.
