TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Rescue Command Center received a report from mainland China at 5 a.m. Wednesday (April 17) regarding a Chinese cargo ship which took on water.
Dense fog has recently enveloped Kinmen County, complicating the rescue operation for the ship—Ruicheng 6.
Both sides of the Taiwan Strait dispatched vessels to aid in the rescue, and all crew members were fortunately saved. After the Ruicheng 6 sank, approximately seven tons of heavy oil leaked from the ship, which is currently being urgently addressed.
The coast guard vessel PP-3552 arrived at the scene at 6:15 a.m. Due to the dense fog, visibility was limited to just five meters, increasing the difficulty of the rescue operation.
By the time the PP-3552 approached the Ruicheng 6, the cargo ship had already sunk. However, all 12 crew members had boarded a life raft and were picked up by the nearby Chinese cargo ship, the Dong Yi 602. The crew members were all safely returned to China.
