HUALIEN (TVBS News) — Ten days after a powerful earthquake rocked Hualien, the demolition of the Uranus Building continues on Friday (April 12). The Hualien Economic Affairs Department said it expects to complete the demolition of the seventh floor on the same day.
Animal lovers have expressed concern for the three cats and several chickens trapped in the building. The department said two chickens managed to fly down and escape the day before, adding that if any chickens or cats are spotted during the demolition, the process will pause until the animals have safely escaped.
The department said that heavy machinery and excavators could be brought in once the demolition reaches the fifth floor to speed up the process from the top of the building. The department anticipates the entire structure will be demolished within two weeks.
