TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Premier Chen Chien-jen said on Friday (March 8) that the government would enhance communication efforts with China toward maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Chen's remarks came after statements by Chiu Kuo-cheng, Minister of National Defense, who disclosed his deep concerns about the severe straits situation. Chiu admitted to daily fears and sleepless nights due to the increasing tension.
Addressing Chiu's remarks, Chen acknowledged heightened awareness following any violations of the peaceful status quo in the strait by China.
The Premier emphasized the role of robust defense to ensure peace, and called upon China to uphold its responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the straits. He stressed the importance of this stability for worldwide peace and prospering development.
He assured the government would intensify its communication with China to bolster peace and stability in the Strait.
Chen further urged China to cooperate in maintaining dialogue and coordination between the two sides as part of a broader effort to preserve tranquility across the straits.
