YILAN (TVBS News) — Turtle Island (Guishan Island) of Yilan County is set to reopen starting Friday (March 1), with daily visits capped at 1,800 tourists. This opening comes after the island's customary closure from December through February for ecological rejuvenation.

In a joint effort to promote eco-tourism, the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Headquarters, Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council, the Yilan County Environmental Protection Bureau, and the Toucheng Fisherman's Association will be conducting a beach cleanup on Feb. 28.

Over 550 participants are expected to contribute towards preserving the beauty of Turtle Island.

The Scenic Headquarters said the cleanup event aims not only to maintain a beautiful tourist environment but also to ensure sustainable management of the island.

Considering the total control principle, daily visits are limited to 1,800 guests following the opening. Potential visitors are required to register in advance before travel to the island.

Turtle Island, known for its rich ecology, is one of Yilan’s popular tourist attractions. Its yearly closure allows for a vital respite that helps enhance its biodiversity.
