TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mike Gallagher declared on Thursday (Feb. 22) that both Democrats and Republicans are committed to deepening U.S.-Taiwan relations.
Gallagher underscored that any decision by the Chinese Communist Party to invade Taiwan would surely fail, reiterating America's enduring allegiance with Taiwan in defending freedom and democracy.
The delegation, headed by Gallagher, comprises the Committee's senior member Raja Krishnamoorthi, and U.S. Representatives John Moolenaar, Seth Moulton, and Dusty Johnson.
Representative Krishnamoorthi voiced the U.S.'s strong bipartisan backing for sustainable development of U.S.-Taiwan ties, highlighting the criticality of the Taiwan Relations Act. He expressed hopes for legislation to continuously enhance these ties.
He also expressed his confidence in Lai's leadership capacities in assuming the presidency, applauding his inspiring and impressive international press conference following his election.
He believes Lai, a former physician, has the aptitude to discern the strategy Taiwan needs to face future challenges.
