TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. Congressman Mike Gallagher, chairman of the House of Representatives select committee on China, praised Taiwan for resisting China's bullying and for successful development during his visit to Taiwan on Thursday (Feb. 22).
Gallagher voiced America's support for newly-elected President Lai Ching-te and the incoming legislature members. The team led by Gallagher included Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, committee members John Moolenaar, Seth Moulton, and Dusty Johnson.
Gallagher shared his beliefs that the U.S. stands with Taiwan by deepening interaction between leaders and economic relations, which in their view could maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Krishnamoorthi expressed pleasure in having the opportunity to discuss ways of enhancing U.S.-Taiwan relations. He encouraged all countries to deepen relations with Taiwan, underscoring that Americans stand with the Taiwanese as they see democracy as a value, not merely a form of government.
In addition to the Gallagher-led visit, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio also emphasized his firm support for Taiwan. During his visit to Paraguay on Wednesday (Feb. 21), Rubio met with Han Chih-cheng, Taiwan's ambassador to Paraguay.
