KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Strong winds have wreaked havoc in Lingya, Yancheng, and Gushan districts in Kaohsiung City on Wednesday (Feb. 21), causing an infamous giant yellow rubber duck to collapse due to its mooring cable coming undone.
Kao Min-lin, director-general of the Kaohsiung Department of Tourism, clarified that the collapse of the duck was due to the dislocation of its cables and anchors as well as electrical devices and not a puncture or leak.
"Restoration is in full swing. Once the moorings and other parts are fixed, the duck will bounce back to its original form," said Kao. However, no estimation of the repair time was given earlier that day.
As the incident has stirred up a flurry of discussions online, Kaohsiung City Councilor Chiu Chun-hsien also posted photos of the deflated duck on Facebook, humorously pointing out, "The poor duck has been under 24-hours duty for many days, not even the Labor Standards Act can protect it!"
