TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The integration of sports with technological advancements is rapidly gaining momentum. Across the sports arena, from AI-driven gadgets and cutting-edge sports venues to performance analysis tools and virtual reality (VR) training, technology is becoming increasingly ubiquitous.
One notable example is VR cycling, where individuals can immerse themselves in virtual rides through Taipei's city center. With real-time tracking of metrics like cycling speed, heart rate, and calories burned, users experience an authentic outdoor cycling sensation from the comfort of their homes, regardless of weather conditions.
Liu Shu-chen, a senior manager in the product industry, lauds this innovative technology for its ability to replicate real-world cycling routes and gradients, enhancing the user experience.
Developed by National Taiwan Normal University and the National Science and Technology Council, the VR cycling route together drove sports technology forward. Professor Chen Mei-yen emphasizes the focus on making sports accessible to the general public, with technologies enabling exercise both at home and in small groups.
Beyond cycling, technology is revolutionizing badminton training as well. Wang Hsing-yung, CEO of the AI Badminton Center, draws parallels to MLB baseball, where technology tracking shuttlecock speed provides instant statistics to improve smash techniques.
Recognizing the transformative potential of sports technology, the Executive Yuan has launched the “Sports Everywhere” Project, earmarking NT$4.6 billion for investment in this sector. With the incorporation of emerging technologies like AI, VR, and AR, smart venues and equipment are poised to elevate the sports experience to new heights.
