HSINCHU (TVBS News) — The Hsinchu County Government announced on Friday (Feb. 16) that from January to December 2024, drivers on bus routes in its jurisdictions will receive a monthly wage subsidy of NT$10,000.
Hsinchu County Commissioner Yang Wen-ke noted that urban bus operations across Taiwan are facing daunting challenges, stating that this decision aims to reduce employee turnover and ensure the rights of citizens using public transport.
Workforce attrition from bus driving to logistics, tour buses, or other industries has left public bus operators helpless with no other option than to reduce services, Yang said.
Since the shortage of workers in the public bus industry is severe, Hsinchu County hopes to help operators recruit talent through this wage subsidy measure for bus drivers.
Drivers in the county will receive the subsidy after review every three months, the local official commented.
