TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — In what marks the final working day before the Lunar New Year on Wednesday (Feb. 7), Taoyuan Mayor Simon Chang distributed "Year of the Dragon" lucky bags at the city hall.
Expressing gratitude for the hard work of the city hall staff over the past year, Chang handed out the lucky bags that were themed "Luck and happiness with the dragon."
The bags featured a dragon enfolded in peach blossoms, representing prosperity and good fortune. On the reverse side, calligraphy artist Chang Fu-nan scribed the phrase "The dragon brings joy to peace and happiness" in a small seal script.
The lucky bags each contained a coin of a one-dollar denomination, bundled with a red cord. The inclusion symbolizes "the renewal of all things" and is believed to ward off evil and disasters.
The bags, labeled "Dragon's Peace," stand for gathering wealth, good luck, and auspiciousness. Besides city hall volunteers, janitors, and security guards, Chang also shared the lucky bags with the public who were passing by for business. Fulfilling the tradition, the Mayor ended the lunar year on an appreciative and optimistic note.
