TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Minister of Transportation and Communications, Wang Kwo-tsai, confirmed on Monday (Jan. 29) that EVA Air would manage an ongoing issue concerning Lunar New Year flight cancellations independently.
According to Wang, the airline had 38,000 air tickets per day during this period but saw the number reduce to 33,000 by Saturday, which indicates a daily cancelation of 5,000 tickets.
EVA Air and its pilots' labor dispute concluded on Sunday evening (Jan. 28), with a settlement under the coordination of Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan. The agreement was achieved after weeks of contentious negotiations concerning pilots' pay.
Initially, the pilots' union demanded a pay raise of 20%. However, EVA Air agreed in the end to an increase aside from the previously announced wage adjustment. The new arrangement will comprise additional monthly payments of NT＄13,500 for the pilots, NT＄11,000 for senior deputy pilots, and NT＄10,000 for deputy pilots.
The airline has also agreed to revise the annual salary increase limit.
