TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As all airlines have already filled their fleet for the Lunar New Year holidays, the impact would be significant for respective travel agencies in case of any strike action by EVA Air pilots during the Lunar New Year holidays, said the Travel Quality Assurance Association on Friday (Jan. 26).
Pilots under EVA Air have planned to go on strike during the Lunar New Year period from Feb. 7-18 and the Tomb Sweeping Day holidays from March 30 to April 7.
Ringo Lee, the association's spokesman, expounded that it would be monumental for travel agencies to adjust their operations and relocate passengers if EVA Air pilots went on strike.
Regarding the Tomb Sweeping Day holidays, Lee indicated that travel agencies have limited alternatives but to avoid EVA Air flights as much as possible. However, managing already-sold bookings would require a separate action.
Although the pilots' union has announced the duration of the intended strike, the exact date will only be informed 24 hours prior.
Lee suggested establishing a strike notice period similar to the Danish model, which permits notice of strike action a month in advance.
