TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As a cold front looms over Taiwan, Yangmingshan Elementary School in Taipei has announced the island's first "cold day off."
The school, facing single-digit temperatures forecasted from Monday night through Wednesday, decided to suspend classes for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The school's principal, Liang Chih-huan, told local media that the decision was made in light of potential snowfall and to ensure the safety of students and faculty.
He noted that make-up classes are scheduled for the following Monday and Tuesday.
Chinese Culture University, also perched on Yangmingshan, is considering a similar move. Yet, the decision is still under deliberation among the administrators.
With the nation preparing for chilly weather, experts are calling on authorities to perform a basic risk assessment for "cold days off."
This is to gauge the potential impacts of the temperature drop on transportation, maintenance, and life safety.
