TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan (MND) reported on Monday (Jan. 22) that four Chinese aircraft and six Chinese balloons were detected in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait over the past 24 hours.
The ministry noted the balloons were found to be soaring between 15,000 and 27,000 feet. One of these balloons was detected a mere 57 nautical miles west of Keelung City. In addition, the MND identified activities involving four Chinese vessels in the Taiwan Strait.
The Republic of China Armed Forces used mission aircraft, ships, and shore-based missile systems to closely monitor and respond to these activities, as per the MND statement.
The military underscored that Taiwan faces a constantly changing threat landscape to its security environment, with China's cognition warfare accompanying its military actions to affect Taiwan. As a result, it's imperative to continually refine public announcements to avoid enemy influence.
