TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen praised Taiwan's economic achievements, highlighting its top-ranking growth rate in East Asia during a year-end celebration on Wednesday (Jan. 17).

In a review of the nation's economic performance, Tsai revealed that from 2016 to 2023, Taiwan's average economic growth rate stood at 3.17%. This impressive figure not only outperforms East Asia but also surpasses the global average.

Tsai attributed this success to the government's efforts in infrastructure development and improving the industrial environment, which have fostered innovation, attracted both domestic and international investors, and driven economic growth.

She specifically emphasized the growth in Neihu Technology Park, which now accommodates over 6,700 domestic and foreign companies, providing more than 200,000 job opportunities and generating collective income exceeding NT$5.2 trillion.

Addressing corporate leaders in attendance, Tsai encouraged them to consider increasing wages and year-end bonuses for their hardworking employees, given the robust operational conditions and profitability of their companies.

With her term ending on May 20, Tsai assured that the government would continue to focus on problem-solving and consider public opinions during the transition period.
