TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president-elect Lai Ching-te and vice president-elect Hsiao Bi-khim shared grateful moments with over 300 campaign staff, party officials, and volunteers at a Thanksgiving banquet held in Taipei on Wednesday (Jan. 17).
In a playful mood, the incumbent vice president Lai Ching-te jocularly declared, "My VP is better than President Tsai Ing-wen's VP," evoking hearty laughter from attendees.
Expanding his jest, Lai Ching-te later posted on the social media platform Threads quoting his speech, "Report to President Tsai Ing-wen, I am already ahead at the starting line because my VP is better than yours!" The post triggered an influx of hilarious responses from online users, with one commenting that Lai Ching-te "doesn't spare himself when throwing shade".
Hsiao Bi-khim quickly responded to Lai's post, teasingly questioning whether he favored cats or dogs. This elicited a reply from President Tsai Ing-wen who sportively said that she "wants them all".
On a nostalgic note, Hsiao Bi-khim shared on Facebook a photo of her and Lai Ching-te enjoying traditional Taiwanese popsicles together, expressing delight in having the snack that she hadn't enjoyed in some time.
In the spirit of gratitude, Hsiao shared that they were treating party staffers to show their appreciation for their hard work during the campaign trail.
