TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated on Tuesday (Jan. 16) that Ralph Gonsalves, the prime minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, reaffirmed that the bond between Taiwan and his country is strong, and the two nations will continue bolstering cooperation.
In a video call with Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, Gonsalves heartily congratulated Taiwan on its smoothly executed general election, extending congratulations to its president-elect, Lai Ching-te.
According to a ministry press release, Gonsalves intended to lead a delegation to Taiwan to participate in the president's inauguration ceremony.
Wu responded gratefully to Gonsalves' well-wishes and, on behalf of the government, extended a welcome to Gonsalves for the presidential inauguration celebrations scheduled for May.
Gonsalves also criticized Nauru's breaking off diplomatic relations with Taiwan and stressed Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' position as faithful friends to Taiwan.
He pledged to unswervingly uphold Taiwan-Saint Vincent diplomatic ties and deepen the friendly cooperative relationship based on existing foundations, supporting the new governmental team with this belief.
Expressing gratitude for Gonsalves' sincere bond, Wu said the government is keen to continue intensifying cooperation with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to promote the well-being of the people of both countries.
