TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant political development, Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won a third term in the 2024 presidential election. This victory is noteworthy for both local and international communities.

Terashima Muneki of Mainichi TV Shanghai Bureau provided insight into the global interest in Taiwan's elections. He emphasized the uniqueness of Taiwanese election campaigns.

Mandi Heshmati from TV5 Monde highlighted the importance of domestic issues like housing and birth rates in Taiwan. These issues are often overshadowed by international focus on cross-strait relations.

Dr. Priya Lalwani Purswaney, a freelance reporter from India, discussed the manual vote-counting process in Taiwan. This method contrasts with practices in India and adds to the conversation on global democratic practices.

With the 2024 election concluded Taiwan faces new challenges and opportunities. The country's geopolitical position makes it a key player in international discussions on democracy and governance.
