TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu emphasized the democratic nature of Taiwan and the widespread desire to maintain the status quo across the Taiwan Strait in a new interview with CNN's English news channel in India.

The interview, which unfolded on Wednesday (Jan. 3), addresses a wide range of issues from the importance of Taiwan's presidential elections to its global economic role.

Minister Wu highlighted President Tsai Ing-wen's dedication to maintaining political stability since her 2016 election, noting this approach has garnered international recognition.

He stressed the significance of Taiwan's contribution to the global economy, particularly its production of 90% of the world's semiconductor chips, underscoring the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait.

Wu also addressed the military threats from mainland China, stating that Taiwan is working to enhance its defense capabilities. This effort is aimed at conveying to China the significant cost of any aggressive actions towards Taiwan.

Furthermore, Wu expressed a desire to deepen Taiwan-India relations, particularly in integrating the semiconductor supply chains of both nations through talent development.
