TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China is allegedly pressuring influential Taiwanese rock band Mayday to make pro-China statements ahead of Taiwan's January 2024 election, per foreign reports on Thursday (Dec. 28).

Reuters cited a national security memo from Taiwan and insider sources to reveal that China's National Radio and Television Administration has urged Mayday to endorse Beijing's claim that "Taiwan is part of China" and align with China's "media propaganda on Taiwan."

In response to media inquiries, a Taiwanese official argued that Chinese authorities believe influencing Mayday's stance can "impact young voters in Taiwan." On the other hand, B'in Music, Mayday's management, has remained silent on this issue.

Higher authorities from China's Communist Party Publicity Department and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, overseeing the National Radio and Television Administration, have not commented on the report.
