TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je emphasized on Tuesday (Dec. 26) that the purpose of the 'Strong Generation' program he proposed is to encourage able-bodied individuals to remain employed, dispelling rumors about him preventing seniors from retiring.

These remarks were made during the second Central Election Committee Policy Presentation, where Ko elaborated on his 'Strong Generation' initiative. The plan encourages individuals aged 65 and above, who are willing to work, to postpone their retirement. He believes that the current employment and worker insurance system, which presently only extends to age 65, requires reform.

Ko advocates for the elimination of negative stereotypes against the elderly, fostering a societal shift to view seniors as assets rather than burdens.

To facilitate this, Ko plans to establish a national 'Strong Generation' research center with a focus on creating an industrial chain tailored to the needs of the elderly population. This new economic plan would be comparable to the Institute for Information Industry's strategies for the silver-haired generation.

Highlighting Taiwan's issue of an aging population and low birth rate, Ko emphasizes the need for a significant shift in societal perceptions. His proposals aim to cultivate a conducive environment for young people to have children and to ensure seniors can live a more vibrant 'Strong Generation' life.
