KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng visited the injured naval officers at Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital on Friday (Dec. 22), following an accident on a Hai Hu submarine.
The accident occurred a day earlier, when six naval officers fell overboard, resulting in three officers rescued, and three others missing.
Chiu apologized for the incident, assuring that efforts to find the missing officers wouldn't be given up easily.
His main purpose for the visit, he said, was to understand the cause of the accident, and offer encouragement to the navy brethren.
"We need to boost their morale because the patrol training is very tough," Chiu noted.
Chiu also stated that he had expressed concern for the hospitalized injured officers and would support their physical and mental health.
