TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Environment (MOENW) recognized 59 Taiwanese and American eco-friendly schools on Wednesday (Dec. 20) for their successful integration of environmental education practices.
The MOENW announced that this year's green flag certifications, signifying a long-term commitment to sustainability, reached a record high, with Taoyuan boasting six certified schools. The green flag certificates symbolize extensive efforts and dedication to fostering sustainable principles and active engagement within the school environment.
Liu Tsung-yung, Director of the MOENW Department of Environmental Protection, noted that the upcoming year marks the 10th anniversary of the "Taiwan-American Eco-School Partnership Program," jointly promoted by the MOENW and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 2014, with the Ministry of Education (MOE) joining in 2021.
The MOENW aims to align Taiwan's eco-friendly schools with global standards, encouraging participation and investment from all sectors to increase the number of schools in eco-friendly programs.
